Being a good Christian is not just about saying your prayers and going to church. It’s about being a good, kind person every day of the week. Sometimes in our daily lives, when we are taken up with commitments such as going to work and paying the bills, we tend to forget the little things that God has taught us. We may remember to say grace before we eat and say our prayers before we sleep, but do we share God’s love in other aspects of our life? The bible teaches us how to live as God want’s. It’s our guide to being a good Christian. Here are some suggestions that won’t take up much of your time, but will show the world that a small act of kindness can go a long way.
Help someone who is not as fortunate as you are at least once a week
God encourages us to help others and it needn’t cost you anything, or take up much time. Perhaps the next time you are in town and see an elderly person struggling with shopping bags, offer to help them. Or maybe you have a neighbor that isn’t very mobile. Offer to do a bit of DIY for them or pick up some groceries. You could make a big difference to people’s lives by making small gestures such as these and the bible constantly mentions giving help to others.
Show respect to others
Sometimes other people aren’t always respectful or polite and when we get frustrated it can be easy to say things we wouldn’t usually say. The next time you feel a bit angry or frustrated, count to five before you say or do anything. Even if someone has been disrespectful or hurtful to you don’t do the same back. You don’t know what that other person may be going through in his own life so try to stay as respectful as possible to everyone.
Be a good listener
The next time someone is talking to you make sure you show them that you are listening carefully. Showing a person you are listening to them makes them feel better and this is especially important if someone is confiding in you. Make eye contact with them and don’t say anything until it is clear they are waiting for you to answer, or they have finished speaking. If that person is suffering he will feel more comfortable confiding in you if he thinks you are listening carefully.
Donate your unused items to charity
Try to think before you throw anything away and ask yourself if someone can make use of it. You would be amazed at the type of things other people may benefit from. Instead of throwing away unused or old items the next time you have a clear out, take them to your local charity shop and see if they can make use of them.
Living life as a good Christian is easy, just continue to read the bible, go to church and keep love in your heart.
